There’s always a waiting period of about 30-60 days that you have to go through when you start a new construction house. After you make your final selections and you are happy with your choices, everything goes off to the architects so they can draw up your blueprints, then it has to go get appraised, then it has to go to the city for a build permit. Those things take time, and the wait IS KILLING ME!!!!
So what do I do in the mean time? I browse Pinterest, browse the Inverness Flickr feed, stalk the builds in our soon to be neighborhood, read other blogs about building homes, and just generally OBSESS about the home we’re building.
I’ve read most of our warranty information, most of our HOA information, and I’ve been getting familiar with what to look for during the pre-drywall inspection and the final inspection.
Can you tell I’m excited? I’ve wanted this for a few years now, and it’s FINALLY happening. To say I’m excited is short-changing how I really feel about this.
One of the things I’m most excited about is the entryway. It’s not anything grand like some of the ranch/lifestyle homes they have, but I’m really excited to make it look beautiful. Here’s one of the Bentleys from their Flickr page.
This gives you an idea of what the foyer looks like. I plan on putting a really beautiful runner there with a hall tree or table, a nice mirror, etc. I’m unsure of how much wall space will actually be there, since I didn’t really pay attention well when we were going through the front door of the Bentley we saw, since my eye immediately caught the kitchen and the beautiful island. From the look of the floor plan, it seems like there should be room for a hall tree on the powder room wall.
Our flooring is a really light grey color, so I was thinking of having a blue/turquoise runner to really make it pop. Something like this:
What do you think? Will it look good on these floors? Let me know in the comments below!
